Tomorrow is New Year's Eve! I'm really excited about it because it's my second favorite holiday (my first favorite being Thanksgiving). I am eager to embrace the new year as I reflect, and continue to be so immensely thankful, for this past year!
The best part of ringing in the new year is being able to celebrate it with friends! I am thrilled to be able to host yet another get-together in my new house. Many people will be unable to make it (most due to prior plans) but I'm very happy that there are a few that are going to share this special occasion with me!
I think that this song really captures what new year's is about. Let's give thanks for God's blessings and continue to grow in our faith! Let's enjoy food, fellowship, and great memories tomorrow and look forward to what God has in store for us!

Anticipating the New Year

For me, this was probably a year to remember! I have had so many rough years for so long, that I don't think I remember the last time I really had a "good year". It started off a little rough, but it ended up turning out rather well in so many ways (buying a house being the biggest thing). I don't know what the new year holds for my children and I, but I have reason to believe that it will continue to build upon this past year. For the first time in I don't know when, I feel like things have finally started working out and falling into place. I couldn't be more grateful and I know that God has been the author of it all!

Healthy Pina Coladas!
The new year is fast approaching! That means it's time to make those "resolutions" to be healthy, right? That also means that you're grudgingly going to "diet" and complain about not getting to eat your favorite things anymore while munching lettuce leaves and eventually giving up after you give into a food craving. Well, it doesn't have to be that way! Not only can you reduce your cravings, lose weight, and gain energy, but you don't have to feel starved (and you can still find ways to eat what you love). How? With Shakeology! In just ONE delicious shake a day, you will get all the nutrition you need, feel satisfied, and enjoy every minute of it! If you've read my story, you know it's true!
Here's a treat for you; a pina colada! It's a delicious treat that is actually good for you! Who says you can't have your shake and drink it too? ;)
Pina Colada Shakeology
1 serving Vanilla Shakeology
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup 100% pineapple juice
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Mix ingredients in a blender with ice (more or less to suit your consistency preference).

1 serving Chocolate Shakeology
1 cup vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup fresh pineapple
Shredded coconut (probably 1/3 cup? Whatever the serving size is on the package).
Mix ingredients in a blender with ice (more or less to suit your consistency preference). This is one of my favorites! It's so good (and VERY filling. You might have to adjust the ingredients to your liking).

Healthier Tomato Soup
Cold weather may not always be fun, but one of the few perks are the hot drinks, soups, and foods that warm you right up! Who among us doesn't love hot soup on a chilly day? I know I do!
Here's a recipe for some tomato soup that you might enjoy! Tomatoes in general have a lot of good nutrition in them, but sometimes tomato soups aren't as nutrition laden as they should be. The ingredients in this recipe definitely make it more worthwhile! :)

Do We Know?
Yesterday, I shared about our church sermon and how Christmas all boils down to "God is with us." Our pastor challenged us to stop and ponder the miracle and gift of Jesus. He mentioned this song, "Mary Did You Know?", which describes the many things that Mary must have pondered about her son. Those of us that are parents know what she must have been feeling; to hold her first born, to admire his perfect features, and to think about his life ahead. Now, imagine that that child is the Son of God. Everything is that much more magnified! Pause and think about it. Take it all in!

It's very timely that today's sermon was about that very thing that I was doing last night. Pastor Larry Sprinkle was saying that no matter what is going on during Christmas, the four words that it all boils down to is "God is with us." Jesus, Emmanuel, was sent to us (and for us). We are not alone and God is always with us. In our busyness and in our downtime, He is there. He gives us strength and energy to endure as well as the peace and comfort to rest. He is everything we need. That is an amazing truth to take in; and something I value greatly when I have that "decompression time" because I know that God is always there to help me process things.

Healthy No-Bake Cookies!

"Home" for the Holidays
Every time our worship leader shares a personal story, I always tear up. His stories always grab at my heart and resonate so deeply. Yesterday was no exception. Dennis broke the bittersweet news of his father-in-law's passing to the congregation. He mentioned that while it was sad to lose him, it is great for heaven to gain him. He said that years ago, his father-in-law spent a lot of time mentoring a young man. Sometimes, it got to the point where his wife would call the church office, ask if he was there, and then say that he needed to come home. Dennis said that his father-in-law had been at death's door for a while. Finally, God called him up and said that he needed to come home.
I was all teared up thinking about that concept; about how we are all lingering on earth fulfilling God's purpose. Then, the time comes where we get called to go to the home where we truly belong. It just overwhelms me to think about how amazing it will be!
It also blows my mind to think of Jesus being sent from that amazing home to this sinful earth; just so we could be there with Him someday. This is the season where we pause to think about all of that; to think about the hope that humbly entered this world. We watched this short video which reminds us of that simple fact. There are a lot of things that sometimes get mixed in with the Christmas story. There may be a lot of things that aren't "politically correct" in how we celebrate it, but all that truly matters is that we GET IT. We need to get the simple fact that God sent His son, Jesus, to this earth to give us hope and salvation. He was born with the sole purpose to die.....for US! Because of Jesus, we can go "home".

I hope that this video fills you with hope and that you'll take joy in the fact that someday, you'll get to go "home" as well (if you've made that decision for Christ). I know that many of you are probably remembering those that have already gone home (I'm thinking of my Grandma a LOT!). Celebrate life and hope with your families in this temporal home we call "earth" and look forward to the eternal one in heaven! I know I am! I have a lot of "business" in my life. This very blog is a big part of my Team Beachbody business. Though, more than anything, this business is ultimately about God's business. It's precisely why I have given this business back to Him and have sought to glorify God by giving Him the credit as I help others. I'm here to help; that's always been my goal! Not only do I want to help someone get into good physical shape (taking care of the bodies that God has given us) but into good spiritual shape too! It truly is my passion to help people; to help them transform into a better version of themselves. I've always been one to build up, encourage, and help fix things (broken hearts in particular). Helping someone discover the purpose and potential in themselves that God created in them is an extremely rewarding thing!!

Got Nog?
At this time of year, egg nog is a well-known seasonal favorite. It's also very well-known for its calories. One glass of egg nog can have over 200 calories in it! Yeah, that's a lot of calories for a drink, isn't it?

Just like the pumpkin and gingerbread recipes that I shared, there is also a Shakeology recipe that can help you get your egg nog fix. Vanilla Nog
1 serving Vanilla Shakeology
1 cup skim milk
1 tsp. rum extract
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

Creamy Red Potatoes
Tonight, I made something that I haven't made in a while. I got this recipe from a friend several years ago. It's creamy red potatoes (and it's delish!). It's really easy too! It's a crock pot recipe! It goes great with some broiled or grilled chicken!
Creamy Red Potatoes
2 lbs. small red potatoes
1 can Campbell's condensed cream of potato soup
1 pkg. low-fat cream cheese
1 envelope ranch dressing mix
Wash and scrub potatoes with a vegetable brush. Cut into quarters and place them in the crock pot. In a mixing bowl, mix together other ingredients and then stir them into the potatoes. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours. Makes 4-6 servings.

Scaling Back
Due to to the lack of feedback, and the need to scale back, I'm going to discontinue Tuesday and Thursday blogging. As with so many things, sometimes less is more anyways. Media Monday, Workout Wednesday, Food Fridays, Shakeology Saturdays, and Spiritual Sundays will still continue as normal. There might be times where I even miss those days too, but I'll try to keep up on it.

Live to Love and Love Living!
Love definitely makes you feel empowered. Love makes you sing. Love envelopes you; swallows you up. You feel it coursing through your veins. It's embedded into your soul. You pursue love and it pursues you. It's a unique song.
To know love is to know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8). When you experience His presence and sense that amazing love He has for you, you can't help but feel lost in it. Blissful. Content. Perfect. You ponder it and meditate on it. You think about the very essence of it.
Paul says that love is patient, kind, and unfailing; that it hopes, protect, and perseveres (1 Corinthians 13). It's pure, unselfish, and forgiving. Love casts aside all pride, anger, and jealousy. Love, real love, is TRUTH and joy.
Those verses are always rooted deep into my heart. Whenever I think about what love is, or how to love others, I measure it by those verses. Does my love look like that? Is God at the heart of it? Is it virtuous? Is it good? Is it truthful, patient, kind, and unselfish? How strong is the love in my heart? I want it to be genuine; fueled by God, for He IS love. He enables me to love.
Grace and peace to you, my friends! I hope that these words, verses, and this song will empower and motivate you to love! At this time of year, people seem more inclined to act in love. We feel generous and compassionate; wanting to bless others' lives during the holiday season. Though, we must remember, love shouldn't just be a seasonal thing. Having a Content Heart
A while back, I was reading about contentment in a Joyce Meyer devotional. She said: "There's nobody happier than a truly thankful person, a truly content person. The word content means 'being satisfied' to the point where nothing disturbs you no matter what's going on, but not satisfied to the point that you never want any change." Additionally, she also mentioned that, "contentment is not about fame or being well-known, how much money you have, your position at work or your social circle. It's not found in your level of education or what side of the tracks you were born on. Contentment is a heart attitude."
I couldn't agree more! Contentment isn't about a feeling, it's about a way of being. Contentment is a result of thankfulness. When you're thankful, you really can be satisfied in whatever stage you are at in your life because you have a joy in your heart that can't be altered no matter what is going
on in your life.

Even as I look on the terrible years before that, I can still say that overall, I have always been content because I've had the peace of God inside my heart no matter what. There have been lots of moments of extreme pain, loss, and sadness, but the love of God has sustained me and infused me with strength. Remember these verses:

Help Me Out!
It's Thursday. Well, almost Friday as I type this. I have been so preoccupied today! Plus, it seems that Tuesday and Thursday content is more difficult for me to come up with sometimes.
When I decided on the structure of this blog, I assigned different things to different days. Tuesdays and Thursdays are pretty similar, so I might need to change Thursdays to something else. Instead of q&a Thursday, what else could I have? I guess that's today's question lol!! Do any of you have an answer for me? What would you like me to blog about? What would help you the most? On Mondays, I share media; usually videos/songs that are motivating, inspirational, or fun. Tuesdays is "tips and tools" to help you out. Wednesdays, I share about workouts and fitness and such. Forgetfulness. I'm finding that it is becoming more and more of a problem for me. Just yesterday, I forgot to post my daily blog! It wasn't until late today that I realized that I had forgotten and it irked me to no end! I've done this a few times now.
Don't you just hate it when you forget things (especially if it's REALLY important)? Fortunately, forgetting to post a blog isn't nearly as bad as when you forget something bigger like an appointment, a meeting, or some other kind of event or commitment where forgetting would be a BIG mistake!
So, what's the best way to remember to do things? Well, there's a lot of different ways to accomplish this! Probably the most common thing to do is write things down. I am the type that always thinks I'll remember something (like when I go shopping) and then I end up forgetting the very thing I went in there for! My short term memory isn't that great (though, I know my friends and family will say that my long term memory is really good considering I remember insignificant crap that everyone else forgets about lol). Here are a few things I use when I have to write things down:
- Dry erase board on the fridge
- My planner (I keep this with me in my purse)
- Phone apps (my favorite for grocery shopping is the Out of Milk app)
Other things that you can do is follow a routine. Sometimes, that can be the best help in remembering things when you create good habits and stay in a rhythm. Additionally, keep your mind sharp by exercising it (it needs it as much as the rest of your body does). Read or play games like sudoku, crossword puzzles, etc. Not many things in life can be entertaining AND beneficial lol. Games like those definitely can be; and so can reading for pleasure and learning!
One last thing I can recommend to boost your mental clarity is nutrition and exercise. Having the endorphin boost and the right fuel makes a BIG difference! An easy way to get it is through Shakeology (yeah, you knew I was going to say that, right lol?). Well, it's true! My mind and body is a LOT better functioning when I'm drinking it! No kidding!

The Never-ending Thanksgiving
Today is December 1st. Shopping season has officially kicked off with Black Friday and all its deals. People are putting up their Christmas trees and soon, another year will officially wrap up. I don't know about you, but my own heart echoed my pastor's statement this morning when he talked about not wanting Thanksgiving to end yet! I'm not talking about having a never ending turkey feast or anything. I'm talking about the whole essence of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I feel like it puts a lot of things in perspective and generally helps people to remember to have an attitude of gratitude. It's a shame that that spirit doesn't always continue year round. People are far too selfish and negative these days.
I was so blessed by the message at church today. Our pastor always has such a great heart behind every sermon. He encouraged us to be thankful for everything and for one another. And, like the message in the video that they showed, to remember that no matter how "messy" life gets, God is good! Watch this video! It's very touching (and quite hilarious as well lol).
My life has really been "messy" in these past three years. Those of you closest to me know what I'm talking about. Now, I feel like God has truly been putting things back in order. I'm All Shook Up!
I'm all shook up! I just can't take it anymore! It's been a while since I've had Shakeology, and it's AWFUL! My time and money has been focused so much on furnishing my new house (and making sure my bills are covered) that I have put off buying Shakeology for myself. "Leftover" Recipes
Thanksgiving is over and you know what that means?! No, I'm not talking about Black Friday (although, Team Beachbody still has their amazing Black Friday deal going on for a few more days yet!). I'm talking about Thanksgiving leftovers!!
So, what are you going to do with all that turkey that didn't get eaten? Well, there are lots of ways to reinvent Thanksgiving with some awesome "leftover" recipes! Does turkey soup sound good? It sure looks good! Though, soup or no soup, I LOVE turkey so I don't mind eating it for a good long while! ;) Turkey is full of protein so it's a win-win anyways!

What Are YOU Thankful For?
I'm sitting here watching "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" on TV (love this movie lol) and just relaxing after a wonderful Thanksgiving day with my family. Food, fellowship, and football. It doesn't get any better than that!
So, now it's time for my daily blog, but I've got nothin' lol. Who wants to use their brains or do much of anything after a day like today, right? Though, there are people that are probably out at the stores getting ready to work off those Thanksgiving calories for good deals! So, I guess for this q & a Thursday, I have a question to ask rather than answer. What are you all doing tonight? Did you get enough to eat? Or, were you the ones feeding people. I know at least a couple that were out there feeding some less fortunate people (mad props to you!). Are you getting ready to go shopping now?
Though, the main question I have for you is "what are you thankful for?" I have a long list of blessings that I am thankful for! Every day this month, I have been posting my thanks on Facebook and have been enjoying reflecting on everything God has blessed me with! I have an AMAZING family, some REALLY great friends, my kids, a new house, a job that I love, and so much more! God takes care of us and we have so much!

Eating Turkey Without Feeling Like One
In just two days, most of us will be gathering around the table for our Thanksgiving meal with our family. That likely means turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and lots of other foods. With so much around the table, how are you supposed to enjoy it all without feeling like you're just as stuffed as the turkey itself?
First of all, don't feel like you have to pile your plate high and try everything! If you DO want to sample most of it, do just that: take SAMPLE sizes. A little bit of this and that is fine; or just focus on your favorites. Eat leisurely and enjoy! Watch some football while you space out your eating a little bit.
Secondly, don't laze around! Keep moving a little bit. Play with the kids in your family, walk around/chat with someone, or help clean up the kitchen. Find something to do that's active as well as stimulating. Enjoy your time with family and make some memories while you're at it!
Lastly, don't feel bad for enjoying any of it! Whether you're dieting or not, it's great to have a temporary break and not worry about "forbidden" foods. Some of our favorites only come once a year, so allow yourself the pleasure of eating it; but don't overdo it!

Get Your Serve On!
Years ago, I seen a video in church that has always reminded me to look beyond the surface and empathize with people more. It was a really great video called "get service". Yesterday, our church happened to play that same video in connection with the series about learning how to serve others. The message is just as refreshing now as it was then!
Please take the time to watch this video! You'll be glad you did! It's a great reminder for this time of year (as well as year round). It's all too easy to get caught up in ourselves and think about what "we" need all the time. We forget that there are hurting people all around us and that maybe the understanding and kind gestures that we have to offer could make a difference in others' lives.

Consider the House "Warmed"!
Tonight's blog is going to be short. I'm pretty tired from such an eventful day lol. But, it's a very good kind of tired because I had my house warming party today and I think I can definitely say that my house has been "warmed"; with laughter, love, friendship, and the beginning of many memories!
There were a lot of special people that didn't make it, but I am very thankful for the ones who took the time for me and made an appearance. This is only the first of many gatherings and I look forward to having people over more often! :)
I don't know what else to add other than the fact that simple things like this are truly the best things in life! Gathering together to talk, laugh, share stories, and show one's love and support is something that is such a priceless treasure! My heart has been warmed more than anything!

I definitely pity those that DON'T have good friends like mine and have to manage things alone!

The BEST Pumpkin Pie Drink Out There!
Seasonal flavors. Gotta love 'em!! At this time of year, the flavor is usually pumpkin. Lattes, pies, and all sorts of foods and beverages are getting a dose of pumpkin thrown into it. Pumpkin Pie Shakeology
1 scoop vanilla Shakeology
3/4 c. unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 c. canned pumpkin puree
1 Tbsp. coarsely chopped raw pecans
1 tsp. maple syrup (or raw honey)
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Good Thanksgiving Foods
Thanksgiving is coming up. That means family get-togethers and lots of food! That also means the temptation to overeat and gain some extra pounds. No one wants that.
According to this article, our Thanksgiving foods aren't all that bad. Many of our Thanksgiving favorites are pretty good for us! The main course, turkey, is almost always a good choice. I say "almost" because baking your turkey is always a lower calorie option rather than deep frying your turkey. Either way, though, you're going to be getting a lot of nutrients and protein. Protein is always good! :)
Potatoes aren't always a bad thing either. You just have to be careful not to have TOO much butter and extras with it. Limit your portions and you'll be fine. The same thing with almost any other dish. Pumpkin pie, for example, has a lot of good nutrition in it too, but take it easy on the Cool Whip.

There are a lot of times where we get overwhelmed or feel like we just don't have what it takes to make it. Persevering isn't the easiest thing to do. But, for every time we say, "I don't think I'm able to do it," we should be saying, "but HE can! HE is able!"

Becoming Fearless
Halloween and all the spooky stuff is supposed to be over. However, creepiness doesn't limit itself to a holiday. Frightful happenings of all kinds happen year round! So, I really shouldn't be surprised at experiencing it in my own house.
It's bound to happen. There are always going to be strange noises and odd things that USUALLY have an explanation; and you just have to get used to it (one of them being the somewhat annoying noises of my water heater). I've become more and more comfortable with my new house and have been adjusting to lots of various things. It is becoming easier to recognize when something isn't typical for my household. That's where the subject of this blog comes in.
Picture this: I'm sitting in the family room with my laptop. I'm journaling and pretty engrossed in it. I start hearing faint noises. It sounds like it's coming from the boxes of DVDs in the corner of the room. I even think I see the antique family rocking chair slightly move. I reason that I'm probably imagining things and that it's nothing. Yet, I keep hearing sounds as if something were lightly scratching the cardboard boxes. I stand up and venture towards the boxes at a safe distance. I don't know whether to be scared or to laugh at myself because I feel like a chick in a horror flick who is about ready to stupidly say, "Hello? Who's there?" I remember how ridiculous that is because everyone knows darn well that there's nothing there; and if there is, you just sealed your fate by asking lol. So, I stand there mumbling and reasoning to myself as to what the noises might be and I just wait, listen, and watch to see if anything happens. All the while, I am once again thinking that the dead silence is going to suddenly be followed by a big "GOTCHA" moment (complete with the sudden surge of scary music). I further tempt fate by slowly walking towards the boxes and standing on the couch to see if I could peer down and see anything.
Despite the weird feeling you get in your stomach when you are that nervous, I was actually fairly calm. I don't know if it was the feeling of "don't panic like some dumb girl in a movie or you'll never survive IF there really is something to be afraid of" or if I was just laughing at myself on some level because I knew I'd discover the lame source of the noises and feel like a dummy. All I know is that after I thought it through, I decided not to worry. I realized my options were pretty simple. I could either investigate the boxes and run the risk of finding a mouse or something creepy as the source of the noises (or nothing at all). Or, I could call Dad and have him come and do it (which I decided against because it was late at night; not to mention stupid). Ugh, this was one of those times where I REALLY wished I wasn't the head of the house and that there was a man around!!
At that point, I realized something. I COULD call on my father; my heavenly Father! In fact, the whole time I had everything running through my head, He was nudging me to just call upon His Name. It's funny how almost always, my first reaction is to call for my Dad. It's because my Dad has always been there to keep me safe, reassure me, and chase away my fears. His example is a reflection of what God does for me; and God is even bigger and mightier! So, calling on my Father in heaven should be my FIRST reaction.
It was like that moment that occurs in the movie where you find the secret weapon to defeat the bad guy. Standing on that couch, I raised my hand in declaration of authority in Christ; commanding out loud that whatever it was, it was under the blood and that it had no power in my home or over me. Whether a mouse or evil spirit, I entrusted it into God's hands and that everything would be fine. I picked up my laptop and took it to my room and then took my shower and went about my business as normal.
I don't know what that whole thing was about (and I have found not traces of vermin anywhere). Maybe it was just the devil messing with me and trying to stir up fear and emotions since I was already in a vulnerable state due to the journaling I was doing. All I know is that I made a choice not to be ruled by fear and to claim the power of Jesus. God promises us in His Word that He is always with us and never leaves us. There's no need to fear, so I decided I was going to believe in it with all my heart and cast any doubts aside. Faith is a powerful thing! The more you believe, the more fearless you become! It's empowering!
Grace and peace to you, my friends! I hope this experience encourages you to stand up and be courageous; remembering the authority that you have in Christ. No matter how big or small it is, let NOTHING intimidate or scare you. God is sovereign over all and He INFUSES His children with His mighty power to overcome everything! Be infused!!! God bless you!
It's bound to happen. There are always going to be strange noises and odd things that USUALLY have an explanation; and you just have to get used to it (one of them being the somewhat annoying noises of my water heater). I've become more and more comfortable with my new house and have been adjusting to lots of various things. It is becoming easier to recognize when something isn't typical for my household. That's where the subject of this blog comes in.
Picture this: I'm sitting in the family room with my laptop. I'm journaling and pretty engrossed in it. I start hearing faint noises. It sounds like it's coming from the boxes of DVDs in the corner of the room. I even think I see the antique family rocking chair slightly move. I reason that I'm probably imagining things and that it's nothing. Yet, I keep hearing sounds as if something were lightly scratching the cardboard boxes. I stand up and venture towards the boxes at a safe distance. I don't know whether to be scared or to laugh at myself because I feel like a chick in a horror flick who is about ready to stupidly say, "Hello? Who's there?" Quality Fuel
I always like to joke that Shakeology has everything in it but the kitchen sink (which is probably good because no one needs to digest a sink!). So, what exactly IS in Shakeology anyways? Low-Fat Cheesy Pasta Alfredo!
I love pasta. I love cheese. These things probably don't love me, though! I don't think they really love anyone. It's hard to eat these things without it showing up as extra pounds later! So, it's always nice when you can find a recipe that takes some of the guilt out of eating it!
This recipe is something that is on my list to try! I am hoping that it will taste as good as it looks! It sure does look appealing to me!!

How Do You Break a Plateau?
When it comes to losing weight, we all hit that dreaded point where we plateau. We stay stagnant for a while and don't seem to be making any progress. Why is that? How can you break that plateau and start losing again?
In this article, you can read more about breaking plateaus. A few of the tips include taking some periods of rest as well as varying your exercise routine. Our bodies get wise to the patterns we start forming and it adapts accordingly. Therefore, it starts to become less effective when it is no longer feeling challenged. That means, you have to change it up! Work harder; but also remember to give your body recovery times too!
Another thing to do is to change your diet. Make sure you're getting a variety. Your body can get too used to the same foods too. Be diligent about getting enough protein (like in eggs) and eat foods (like almonds, avocados) that have monounsaturated fats which can help you BURN fat. :) And, of course, don't forget Shakeology! How to Prevent and Fight Seasonal Illnesses
I don't know about where you live, but here in my town we've seen our first snow! It didn't stick around much, but it's definitely a sign that colder temperatures and winter weather is coming!
That also means that seasonal illnesses are likely on their way too! That's always a bummer! Who has time to be sick?! Certainly not me! However, I'm afraid I MIGHT be coming down with something. Ugh! I really don't have time for this! It makes me seriously regret that I haven't ordered my Shakeology. I had been so consistent with it (and was feeling WONDERFUL and healthy). Unfortunately, I put it off because I have been focusing on things I needed for my new house. I need my magic flower back!! :(
Until then, I will just have to do what I can to battle what I've got. I've been drinking orange juice, having a Dannon pro-biotic drink shot every day, and just had some chicken soup tonight. Plus, I've been googling for tips on how to fight whatever I've got. Hopefully, it's just a mild cold. I found this article and it has several good tips in there for how to take care of yourself. I'm sure some of it you'll already know, but there might be some things you didn't know. It says to blow your nose "the right way". Meaning, one nostril at a time because you can blow too hard and back up your sinuses and give yourself an earache. Check it out!

God Bless Our Veterans!
I can think of few songs more fitting, inspirational, and motivating for today than this! Every time I hear it, I am moved beyond words and my eyes well up with tears! Still Just As Blessed!
Today, we're having a family get together to celebrate my Grandpa's 89th birthday (as well as a ton of other November birthdays in my family). It got me to thinking even more about how much I love November, Thanksgiving, and how I greatly enjoy the opportunity to pause and reflect on my blessings. I LOVE being with my family and I can't wait to see them today! We've always been close and we've bonded all the more in the last couple years due to sadness, illness, and losses in our family.
Just thinking about all that I have to be grateful for made me want to look back through some of my older blog posts and remember what I wrote about in years past. I smile as I re-read the following blog post (shared below) from 2009. In an ever changing world, I hope that things like this don't change much. It's about Casey and his sweet and simple ways; complete with artwork lol. Casey still loves to draw (and in detail) and he still gets excited about the holidays.
Grace and peace to you, my friends! I hope this brings a smile to your face like it did mine and that your lives will be filled with blessings, love, and laughter! For some reason, Casey is just crazy about holidays! Whenever he knows one is coming up, that's all he talks about! Maybe it's because they learn so much about it at school, and sing the songs, make the crafts, etc. I've heard tons of songs/chants about turkeys, pilgrims, Indians, etc. It's all so cute and it reminds you just how fun, exciting, and simple the whole essence of the holiday is (as well as our heritage). It's all too easy, as an adult, to forget the joy of a holiday (or any day/moment). It's nice to be reminded of the simple joys!

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday because it's nearly untainted by the media and doesn't come with a bunch of hype (well, other than hearing about "after Thanksgiving" sales). It's a time where we are reminded to think and reflect on our blessings and truly be grateful. It's a humble and beautiful thing, and something that should be done every day.
With that being said, I don't have much else to say because there isn't much I can add to something as pure and humble as Thanksgiving. As I said, I was reminded of just how simple and wonderful everything can be when you are looking at it through the eyes of a child. That's why I wanted to share this very cute (and somewhat humorous) picture that Casey brought home from school. I hope it brings a smile to your face and warmth to your heart as it did to mine (the part I thought was most funny is that he didn't forget to include a remote control! That's a boy for you, right? LOL!!). I asked Casey who the people were in the picture. The guy at the door is "Squanto", the one on the chair is a "pilgrim", and the one holding the remote is an "Indian". I think we will be able to make his Thanksgiving wish come true in regards to letting him watch his beloved dinosaurs on TV at Papaw and Mamaw's house, but I don't think that any real pilgrims or Indians will be in attendance around our table (although, I venture to say, I often feel as though my children act like wild Indians - and I don't mean that disrespectfully to any Native Americans who are reading). Although, the kids COULD wear the special hats that Casey made at school - one pilgrim hat and one Indian hat. That would make for a good picture! LOL
All the hand-print turkey projects, coloring pages, and other crafts have all brought a smile to my face. Though, the one thing that most blew me away was the beautiful cornucopia that he drew. At first, I thought it was a coloring page that he simply colored, but no.....HE DREW/COLORED it himself!! Personally, I marvel at his artistic ability and interest in drawing because I don't know that I could top him! Seriously, I don't think I could draw much better than him!! And, the best part is, everything he makes comes from that amazing pure heart of his! He's just so innocent and honest about what he's drawing!! And, once again, his depiction of Thanksgiving includes dinosaurs lol. He made sure to include many of them around the cornucopia. ;) I chuckle to think of a dinosaur sitting around the table at that very first Thanksgiving. Can you imagine trying to share a meal with a T-Rex (without BEING a meal?). Ha ha!

Shakeology Survey Says....
Sorry I don't have more to blog, but today got away from me lol! However, the short and sweet bit I have for you is totally worth it!! According to the Shakeology survey that was done, the numbers are pretty good!! See for yourself! I really don't have to say anything because this says it all!! Shakeology is WELL worth it!!

Slow Cooker Broccoli Cheddar Chicken
I have a small slow cooker recipe book that I thought I would start utilizing. I started out with something pretty easy, and it turned out pretty good! Everyone ate it all up! :) You just put six chicken breasts in a slow cooker. Mix together two cans of Campbell's broccoli cheddar soup and two cups of milk (though, I thought it was a little much, so you might want to try 1.5 cups). Add some basil, salt, and pepper, and then pour it over the chicken. The recipe also called for half of cup of minced onion, but I omitted it this time. Cook on high power for an hour and then reduce the heat to low and cook 5-6 hours. Then, boil some egg noodles. Drain them and then mix them in with your crockpot creation. Easy peasy!
